Dream talk

So, some of you out there may or may not know that I talk in my sleep. And some of you have even been there to witness it. My personal favorite happens to be the time my roomie in college caught me saying, and I kid you not,

“Rainbow

Magic

Rhyming

Machine.”

Pretty impressive? Maybe. But it gets weirder. A few nights ago, Micah finally was able to catch a glimpse of my subconscious  (I was fearing that I was past sleep talking). He seems to recall me expressing the following (mind you, he was really tired, but I was loud enough for him to wake up)

Me: { laughing} “But that doesn’t rhyme with _____(some word that Micah can’t remember)

Micah: “hah, what doesn’t rhyme with ___ Betsy?”

Me: “I dunno…”

 

And that’s it. I am open to interpretations on what this could all possibly mean. Why do I care so much about rhyming? And rainbows? When will they invent the rainbow magic rhyming machine? The world may never know.

Fall has….flung?

Trying to think of a fancy way to say that “Fall has arrived”….when weather-wise….it hasn’t.  At least this weekend. It has been scorching hot (for October, 88 degrees is scorching hot) and it’s really hard to tell that summer has ended.

Yesterday we went out with friends to an apple orchard to get our seasonal fruits. Only, most of those trees were picked clean! Interestingly, this did not put a damper in our visit, nor did I come with the expectation of coming home with a bushel of apples. I think I was more interested in getting a good old fashioned tractor ride, and to be even more honest, pumpkin doughnuts. (In my defense, they were really good, and well worth the trip. Also, is it possible to go wrong with donuts?…oh. NEVER.)

I think, for Micah, maybe it was all about the tree climbing.

And all this on like, two hours of sleep? Well somebody’s gotta stay up with the sickos in the emergency room. (Is the term “sicko” disrespectful? I may have just lost a few friends over that..)

For Barbie, maybe it was all about those precious moments spent on her husbands’ shoulders…

No children were harmed in the process of this apple picking.

In the end, I was just there to look good.

Dreams do come true.

When I was really young I had frequent dreams of meeting Kermit the frog and Miss Piggy – they would come to my house and be just as funny as they were on T.V. Well, I must say life has a funny way of making my dreams come as close as they can to reality…….

Ode to Ghareeb Nawaz

One day Betsy and I were on Devon street, looking for some good Indian food.

“I want to find the cheapest food on Devon. I want some cheap Indian food!” I said to Betsy.

One of the first places that caught my eye was at the east end of the Indian area of Devon. It was a small, simple looking place that seemed like “hole in the wall” joint, if you know what I mean. It looked really cheap! But it also looked super busy--and it seemed like most of the people in the restaurant were actually Indian/Pakastani. A good sign.

Anyway, we continued to go all the way down Devon but found nothing looked quite as intriguing as this first little restaurant.

So we decided to be a bit adventurous and checked out Ghareeb Nawaz! Boy, what a treat we were in for! We found one of the gems of Chicago.

This place is amazing. Everything is super cheap, homemade, with huge portions. Betsy’s favorite, Gyros Paratha (an Indian style Gyro), is only $2.50. And it is huge! And AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! The curries and rice dishes run about $3.50 - $6.00. Naan is $0.50 for a huge piece. And the menu is very large. At the main counter there is a sign with every item they serve and a picture of the item. It is a bit daunting, especially if you are not that familiar with real Indian food!

 

Despite the price, the food is simply delicious, and tastes very authentic. Granted, I have never been to India or Pakistan, but the food just seems to have the non-American, full, exotic taste. And judging by how busy the place is, I am guessing it must be pretty close to the real thing.

That said, it probably would be a good idea to have somewhat of an idea of what you want to get before you go. We love the Gyros Paratha, and I have tried one of the curry dishes, which was amazing. Last time we went there, I was a bit adventurous randomly picked something from the menu. I ended up ordering the Shami Kabab. I think my brain was more adventurous than my tastebuds, because I wasn’t able to make it through these minced meat patties. Part of the reason was that I didn’t even know what I was eating at the time! Luckily, my lovely Betsy rescued me by sharing her Gyros with me! That being said, I am eager to try some of the suggestions found at this review site:
