Todayniversary

Sometimes I forget to post about how Micah’s work is going. That’s usually what people ask about, so now I’m obliging all my blog readers. (Skip it if this is boring).

Yesterday was Micah’s last day working in the VA in medicine. And we are VERY glad it’s over. It’s just another hoop we had to jump through really, (at least that’s what it felt like). Last week he worked pretty close to 90 hours. We basically never saw him. It was a pretty rotten month in that regard, since we like having Micah around. Intern year has proven to be a challenge, but one we are close to finishing, so that is good news.

This next month he will be working at the ER. So we’ll see how that goes.

It’s funny because out of all the sacrifices we have to make, the hardest one for me is having to go to church alone. There are SO MANY wonderful members in our ward who help me out, and I couldn’t be more grateful. It’s a humbling time for us all.

Still we are managing to enjoy ourselves more, as we get to know the city better and make friends.

Oh yeah. And we’ve been married three years today!

I still love my cake.

If we are lucky, maybe Micah will come home before 10pm tonight :-?

Talk it out; DON'T JUDGE ME

I joke a lot about judging. Teenagers who do stupid things only want an excuse to do stupid things. So they tell everyone not to judge them. But really, and unfortunately, I have no way of knowing if they need an excuse to do stupid things, or if they are just really stupid. I CANNOT understand them, even if I pretend to.

It is hard not to judge because it is so much fun to do. I'm pretty sure nothing would be more delightful than to secretly read another persons thoughts and know their mind for a day. Just think how much we'd learn about a person that we never would have known before! But I CANNOT do this because I am not professor X!!!! Also that would be very embarrassing.

Why am I talking about this? Why am I blogging so late at night? Because this is the stuff people like to read about on blogs. Random murmurings of young ego-centric fools and their trivial lives.

Only my life is extremely important and not trivial! I am just amused by the way we view (or judge) people based on their online persona. There is a lot of fluff I post that mainly consists of pictures and funny stuff that creeps into my head. I do this very purposefully, because I like to look at the segments of my life that brought me happiness, even if in a small way.

The other part of my life is the busy, stressful part that I rarely write about. But it's cool to have a good rant every once in a while.

Also, it might be good to have a good shrink.

My realization is that if there is a stressful part of my life that needs to be resolved, then just writing about it on my blog or journal is not going to be enough. I talk about my real life with my real friends. This is important people! Talk to someone. That is the moral of this stupid post I am writing. Even the shrinks have their own shrinks! They're all a bunch of shrinky dinks!

Don't steal my joke. It's the only one I've got.

Pippa’s things

Pippa’s room is also a closet.

IMG_0470

I feel bad telling people this, because it makes it sound like she is an accessory.

But it is actually a rather large closet.

IMG_0472

I made her a mobile with rain clouds. Because that is all she will ever know in her young life.

Just kidding. They are just cute.

Pippa has two special quilts. The one I made, and one she received from the special quilt lady from our ward. She is special because she is secret. Nobody knows who she is. And she makes a quilt for EVERY. BABY. IN. THE. WARD. And there are a lot of babies.

It’s one of the coolest things I have ever heard of.

We keep all of Pippa’s clothes and other things in there too since, like I said, it is a large closet. Even for a tremendous amount of Costco Baby wipes.

There’s even some artwork on the wall, courtesy of our friend Emily! Click on her name to see more of her work on her awesome blog.

In other fascinating and exciting news, I made lemon bars last night. YEAHHHHH!

It’s not a special recipe at all. It’s actually the first recipe that comes up when you Google, “Lemon Bars.” But it turned out well, so I’m putting here on the blog for safe keeping.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • pinch of salt
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 lemons, juiced (about 1/2 cup)
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a medium bowl, blend together softened butter, 2 cups flour and 1/2 cup sugar. Press into the bottom of an ungreased 9x13 inch pan. (Or, if you like them thicker like me, put it in an 8'” by 11” pan.)
  3. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, or until firm and golden. In another bowl, whisk together the remaining 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1/4 cup flour. Whisk in the eggs and lemon juice. Pour over the baked crust.
  4. Bake for an additional 20 minutes in the preheated oven. The bars will firm up as they cool.
