Museum Days.

This week ended Micah’s work at Mercy hospital before he goes into cardiology, so he had a little more time for fun. We were able to get FREE admission to TWO museums; the Field Museum and the Shedd Aquarium. They were magnificent!! I love natural history and feel lucky to live so close to these amazing institutions.

Outside the museum there were geese.

Big, big fish!

The remains of snow sculptures.

We can’t seem to find our camera, therefore I am unable to post the amazing pictures of Sue, the Tyrannosaurus Rex ! But once we find it I will post! In the meantime, here are some pictures from my phone:

Rather interesting taxidermy.

That evening we went to Barnes and Noble to warm up and browse the books. Micah found an interesting book: The Secret Lives of Men and Women.

When he opened the book, he found this inside! I real secret note left by a real person!

I wonder how many people have opened this book and found the note. It seems there have only been two. Or perhaps more, and just didn’t want to write on the note.

I decided to leave a secret of my own on the note and put it back in the book.  I’m not telling you what the secret is, suckahs!

We had a good start to the month, with one of my favorite holidays: Groundhogs Day.

Obviously the only thing that makes that holiday is my favorite movie of all time (If I had to choose one). If you haven’t seen it, I suggest you find a way!

I was excited to have a visit this month from one of my mission companions. We did as much as we could within the weekend we had, with visits to the Art Institute and the Museum of Science and Industry.

Micah’s touching the ART!!!!

This weekend I also decided to make this very very cute bunny, with felt and embroidery floss. I know, I should be sewing things with my new machine, but I couldn’t pass this one up. Ask me if you want the pattern.

What can I say? I love bunnies. And life.

Being compelled to post about my birthday..

Haha. I suppose now I should explain the events surrounding my 24th Birthday.  The Wednesday before I was feeling some back pain, but felt fine all day Thursday. Then that night the pain was terrible. So I took some of Micah’s old Vicodin and was able to sleep. The pain persisted Friday and I started throwing up and stuff, and finally Saturday I was getting a fever. So thats when we decided I better go to the hospital. YAY! Turns out I had PYELONEPHRITIS!!! Which is a scary word for a kidney infection. They did not see any stones in the CT scan, so I’m hoping I didn’t actually have them.

BUT before going to the hospital, Micah took me to go see AVATAR in 3D!!!!!!!!!! It was so amazing! Really one of the best movies I have ever seen. It was truly a visual feast. And amazingly, during the whole movie I felt fine. Miracle??????

So I won’t go into the details of my hospital stay, it is all rather boring, but I will say being in the hospital gave me a good glimpse of what my husbands life is like. It wasn’t the nicest hospital (like, not at all!), and being a patient is probably worse than being a doctor, but I was able to see how it all works. You’d think I’d know by now.  But this was my first time in a hospital and I don’t even watch doctor shows on T.V. So really everything Micah does is like a mystery to me.  Still, being there made me appreciate my health, and I had a lot of really nice doctors and nurses take care of me.

So onto my actual birthday!  Look what has finally come into my life!!!

Really, the best sewing machine I could ask for!!! It works amazingly!!! And now I can MAKE STUFF!!! I was too sick to be as excited as I should have been to receive it!

That evening we had a delicious dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, and ironically, Micah made a cherry cheesecake for me at home, which ended up tasting better than it would have at the Cheesecake factory, I’m guessing! A jolly good fellow, he is.

One month of internal medicine

Well, it has been a little while since we posted anything. Probably because it has been so busy!!!!!!!!! I have been on my internal medicine rotation since January. I was up at Evanston Hospital for the first month, and am now at Mercy Hospital in Chicago. One thing about internal medicine as a 3rd year medical student is that you get to learn an immense amount of material! It really is almost crazy how much we get to learn.

Betsy did have a birthday though! And it was wonderful. Maybe I will let her post about that though!

Overall, things have been going well, and we have been having a great, although very busy, time!
