It is done.

That’s it. Yesterday THE RANK LIST OF DOOM was submitted. What is a rank list? Micah’s list of schools that he could potentially attend for residency. This was the whole point of our travels this winter. Now that it is out of the way, we can leave it to the fates to decide our future. (Not really. It’s actually a computer program that decides. Yeah, weird.) Also, I was really hoping that match day would be on the Ides of March (March 15) But instead it will be March 17. What am I most looking forward to? The Match Day T-shirts! I’m not really kidding. I guess we will also find out where we will be spending the next the next 4 years too. Won’t that be nice?

Maybe I should let Micah write a little bit more about this, but this will all someday go into my memoir and book “How to Marry a Med Student and Doctor,” so bear with me for posterity’s sake. On a side note, here is baby skeletor.

I WILL EAT YOUR BRAINS!

I would post pictures of me, but I’m not a big fan of pictures of me right now. Even though many people are telling me I don’t “look” pregnant, I think they are lying. Yes, even the nurses at the clinic.

Alpha Omega Alpha Banquet

For those of you who care, Micah was chosen out of around 100 students to be a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, University of Chicago chapter.  This is a great honor for medical students. Micah won’t agree, but he easily fit the criteria for what this society stands for.

Why you should subscribe to Cuteoverload.

I’m not much of a pet person. I know, you’re thinking “why the heck do you have a rabbit?” Well, because it was free, it doesn’t make any noise, and is content staying in it’s home-made cage all the time. We only buy wood chips and bunny pellets. Every once in a while I give him leftover vegetables. That’s it. We gave him a name once (Phineas), but most of the time just call him “bunny.”

Bunnies are the CUTEST ANIMAL EVER. Don’t even try to contest this fact. God made rabbits to cute-ify the earth.

All the other animals are for crazy entertainment. So that’s why I subscribe to cuteoverload.com. Not all the animals are cute, but they are crazy and weird. And I can enjoy them without having to own them. I just look at the pictures. It’s the perfect arrangement.

This was super random.

I want to make.

I decided maybe I should try my hand at making a quilt. My problem is that whenever I decide to make something, I get really ambitious and want to do something totally out of the ordinary, and beyond a “beginner’s” level. Basically, I’d like to make something like this:

Too ambitious? You’ll probably say “no!” and think “YES!” Oh well. It’s something to aspire to at this point. My goal is to make something cute, maybe even awesome. I’ll let you know. At least I finally finished sewing the bedroom drapes.

The wonders of nature…in Southside Chicago?

You guys aren’t going to believe this. Well, maybe you will. I came home yesterday to the most amazing sight.

I thought to myself, “did the zoo have some escapees?” Remember, we just had a blizzard. And this is the tree in my courtyard. Some of you know that we have kept one of the inhabitants of our courtyard as a pet. But this was just beyond cool.

So what kind of bird is this? After some research, I found out. They are Monk Parakeets, or Quaker parrots. Parrots! And they are originally from South America, but were imported to the United States as pets in the 60’s. The most amazing thing to me, is how they acclimated to this weather. I mean, it’s freezing outside right now. How is this tropical bird surviving? This is crazy stuff!

I now have something exciting to tell my cubs scouts this week.

Just in case any of you were wondering what they are calling “the Blizzard of 2011” looks like:

A wizard blizzard.

I don’t have much to offer you today in terms of blog posts, but I feel that anyone who lives in this kind of weather shouldn’t do anything else.

Here is Micah taking advantage of the winter shut-in season by playing with electronics. (Maybe “playing” isn’t the appropriate word. He’s taken to it all quite seriously.)

Isn’t our living room carpet spectacular? It hides everything.

Classes were cancelled today and tomorrow. Nice. The snow just keeps coming and coming….

P.S. We got a car! A 2001 Honda CR-V.  Hooray! Welcome to the family!
